Tanu Halder
Tanu Halder is an Indian author of horror, supernatural suspense and dark psychological fiction.
Her stories are drawn towards ordinary places that acquire something wrong at their edges: familiar roads, closed rooms, isolated buildings and journeys that become more dangerous the farther the characters travel from certainty.
She is particularly interested in the point where guilt meets the supernatural, and in characters who discover that the things they have hidden from other people may not remain hidden from whatever is waiting in the dark.
In The Fifth Passenger, Halder turns a winter road journey between Delhi and Chandigarh into a claustrophobic supernatural nightmare involving five strangers, an abandoned bridge, a dead woman and a white taxi whose journey refuses to end where it should.
Her fiction combines atmospheric horror, psychological tension, human secrets and the lingering uncertainty that sometimes the most frightening explanation is the one that cannot quite be proved.
The Fifth Passenger is her first novel published by Iron Gate Publishing.
