Harshit Chauhan

Harshit Chauhan writes contemporary thrillers about ordinary people caught inside extraordinary systems of power, secrecy and deception.

His fiction is drawn to the territory where politics, intelligence, crime and private lives collide, with particular interest in the ways institutions shape individual choices and the ways apparently small decisions can produce consequences far beyond the people who make them.

In The Thirty-Ninth File, he turns his attention to modern espionage, information warfare and the increasingly uncertain boundary between truth and narrative, following a novelist who discovers that imagining conspiracies is considerably safer than becoming evidence inside one.

He believes thrillers work best when their characters remain recognisably human beneath the machinery of the plot: frightened when they have reason to be frightened, compromised when choices carry costs, occasionally funny at precisely the wrong moment, and rarely granted perfect information merely because the story would find it convenient.

The Thirty-Ninth File introduces Armaan Khanna and the wider world of Black Stone.

More stories from that world will follow.
