The Woman in Room 407

The Woman in Room 407

About the Book

Room 407 contains three facts that cannot all be true.

Rudhir Mehra spent the night with a woman named Shilpa.

The hotel cameras say she never entered his room.

And when the police arrive the next morning, they find another woman murdered behind his bathroom wall.

Rudhir is a successful Delhi lawyer, a married man and, after one reckless night, an extremely inconvenient witness.

He remembers Shilpa clearly: the black sequinned saree, the red glass bangles, the scar beneath her ribs, the perfume on his pillow and the sound of her voice telling him to go back to sleep.

But the evidence tells a different story.

CCTV shows Rudhir entering Room 407 alone. The bartender does not remember Shilpa. No camera records her leaving. And the dead woman hidden inside the room is someone Rudhir insists he has never seen before.

ACP Shehnaaz Sethi does not believe in impossible crimes.

She believes in doors, timestamps, access cards, service corridors, forensic evidence and people who lie when the truth becomes inconvenient.

As Room 407 begins surrendering its secrets, Rudhir discovers that the woman he brought upstairs knew far more about him than a stranger should have known, while his affair tears open a marriage already being forced to survive a murder investigation.

Somebody engineered the impossible.

Somebody expected Rudhir to be blamed for it.

And somewhere beyond the cameras is a woman who may have planned exactly how she wanted to be remembered.

The Woman in Room 407 is a locked-room mystery of murder, deception, marital betrayal and psychological suspense, where every impossible detail has an explanation and every explanation creates another question.

The cameras say she was never there.
Rudhir remembers every inch of her.
